Alex Palmer is a drummer, session player, producer and creative collaborator based in Glasgow, Scotland, since 2018. 

Starting out in the small town of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire, Alex received his formative training from professional drum tutor and performer Richard Champion for 3 years. Given these building blocks and foundational literature, Alex has continued to be self taught and seek inspiration from his drum heroes internationally, and locally such as Rich Kass, Stu Brown and Graham Costello.

 During the 4 years spent at University of Edinburgh from 2012 to 2016, Alex dived head first into the local music scene. The catalyst of this was with jazz/funk party outfit Jambouree, which then led to further full time projects with Smitten, Dead White Males and Tilitose. In early 2015, Alex also cofounded a popular jam night at Henrys Cellar Bar which cemented his love of spontaneous creation and connecting with like-minded musicians. As sideman Alex gained experience and collaborated with such artists as Matheus Barros, Edgar Guerreiro, Graeme  Mearns, Bado Reti, Tom Pickles and Nicole Smit. 

 On moving to Glasgow in 2018, Alex slowly expanded his musical contacts and built up a reputation as an in-demand session player and creative counterpart in all his projects. During this period in late 2018 a lot of the groundwork was laid for writing material with italo/synth duo CUL ZAG, math rock indies Letsby Avenue and contemporary jazz sextet Nimbus.

 2019 saw Alex become a full time member of 60's inspired rock outfit Logans Close and MOY (with ex members of Kassidy). This year also saw Nimbus Sextet sign a deal for their debut LP with Acid Jazz Records, which was released in autumn 2020. 

 In recent years, Alex has completed Scotland/U.K tours with experimental solo artist Bell Lungs, MOY and Nimbus Sextet, and further afield for a month leg in Italy with Smitten on three occasions, and Germany/Italy with Logans Close in late 2019.   Alex has made multiple appearances with Nimbus Sextet and Nicole Smit (of Smitten) at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, plus Glasgow, Aberdeen and Islay festivals ran by Jazz Scotland.

Other festival appearances include Kelburn Garden Party, Knockengorroch World Ceilidh, Doune the Rabbit Hole, Lindisfarne Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.

The early months of 2021, have seen Alex spark new creative partnerships with rootsy rock outfit The Black Denims and jazz singer India Blue Golding, with recordings slated for release in late 2021. The time in lockdown in the past year allowed for plenty of remote collaborations ( Joe Akin, Dog on a Swing, Ollie Turbitt) , and time to work on solo material, some of which is due for independent releaselater in the year.

 Other side projects include late night Jazz Bar funkers Stankstorm , 5 piece horn ensemble Brass Gumbo, spooky folk trio Joy & Struggle plus various function projects and independent session work.
